Max Verstappen Praised as ‘Extraordinary’ by F1 Rookie Who Shares Common Interest

Kimi Antonelli reveals special connection with “mentor” Verstappen

Mercedes rookie Kimi Antonelli has opened up about his surprising friendship with Max Verstappen, describing the four-time world champion as an “extraordinary driver” who has become a mentor to F1’s newcomers.

“It’s a great honour,” Antonelli told Gazzetta Dello Sport when asked about Verstappen’s recent praise.

“We’ve built a wonderful relationship with him this year, and he’s been a mentor to all of us rookies.”

What makes their connection special goes beyond the track, according to the young Italian talent.

“The best thing is that we can talk about so many things we enjoy besides Formula 1, like GT racing, which is a passion for both of us,” he explained.

Antonelli isn’t the only rookie looking up to Verstappen. Stake F1 driver Gabriel Bortoleto recently joined Antonelli in calling the Dutch star the “dad of the rookies” – a testament to how Verstappen has taken time to guide the sport’s next generation.

## Antonelli follows in Verstappen’s footsteps with secret race entry

In a move straight from Verstappen’s playbook, Antonelli recently participated in an off-season race under a fake name.

The Mercedes newcomer competed as “Henry Shovlin” – mimicking Verstappen’s own approach when he raced at Nürburgring under the pseudonym “FranZ Hermann” earlier.

It’s just another way the young driver seems to be taking cues from his more experienced mentor.
