Max Verstappen Dominates US Grand Prix in Stunning Weekend Performance
Max Verstappen put on a masterclass at the United States Grand Prix, earning high praise from Formula 1 veteran Peter Windsor.
“Max Verstappen was the driver of everything,” Windsor declared in his post-race breakdown.
The 73-year-old analyst first acknowledged Charles Leclerc and Ferrari’s strong showing at the Circuit of the Americas, but couldn’t ignore Verstappen’s complete dominance throughout the weekend.
“Charles Leclerc, I get that he was the Driver of the Day, and I think Ferrari, in many ways, were the Team of the Day for going with that tyre choice for Charles,” Windsor said.
“But equally, it’s very difficult to come away from the weekend and not say that Max Verstappen was the driver of everything. He took the sprint pole, he won the sprint, he took the qualifying pole, and he won the Grand Prix.”
The only achievement that escaped Verstappen’s grasp was the fastest lap, which went to young talent Kimi Antonelli “on that new set of tyres, right early in the race.”
What Verstappen pulled off was essentially a perfect Formula 1 weekend. He grabbed pole position for both the Sprint and Grand Prix, then converted both into victories.
It’s the kind of performance that separates good drivers from the truly great ones.
## Mercedes Boss Joins the Praise
Even Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff couldn’t help but admire Verstappen’s performance.
Speaking to GPblog after the race, the 53-year-old Mercedes boss emphasized just how impressive Verstappen was on track.
Wolff added that it would be tough to imagine any other driver mounting such an impressive late-season title charge like Verstappen is doing right now.
The numbers tell an incredible comeback story. Verstappen currently sits just 40 points behind championship leader Oscar Piastri.
What makes this even more remarkable? At the Dutch Grand Prix earlier this season, he was a massive 104 points behind the McLaren driver.
With five races and two sprints still left on the calendar, the championship battle is far from over.
