Marko Reveals Why Perez Might Outqualify Verstappen in Azerbaijan

Sergio Perez outpaced Max Verstappen in qualifying for the first time this season.

Helmut Marko, Red Bull’s advisor, shared his thoughts on why Perez was faster and how Verstappen could have done better than P6.

Both Red Bull drivers ended up in P4 and P6 during qualifying. “The positive thing is that we found speed,” Marko told Sky Sports DE. The 81-year-old believes Verstappen could have had a much better day.

“Max made a rare mistake,” Marko said. “He lost six tenths in Turn 16. So second place was definitely within reach.”

Marko also feels good about the team’s chances on Sunday. “You can overtake here. Checo’s long run was very good with tyre wear. So we have a real shot at moving up in the race,” he noted.

“We can definitely expect safety cars,” Marko added. Baku has seen many crashes, including one during the Sprint Race. In Friday’s practice, there were three red flags, followed by two more crashes and another red flag in Saturday’s practice session.

Fans might think it’s exciting to see such unpredictability in races!
