Marko Comments on Perez’s Volatile Performance: ‘He’s Just Up & Down’

Red Bull’s Helmut Marko reviewed Sergio Perez‘s weekend at the Hungaroring in his Speedweek column. Perez crashed during qualifying but had a strong race on Sunday.

“A typical GP weekend from Perez, I would say. Unpredictable, very good on Friday, just behind Verstappen and with the best longruns of all the drivers. Then unfortunately a silly mistake in qualifying, which resulted in the 16th starting position, followed by a very strong race, finishing in seventh place,” Marko wrote.

Marko on the World Constructors’ Championship

Marko noted that Perez’s performance is inconsistent. “It is just up and down with him, nobody knows when he is going to shine or when he is going to make a mistake, there are just no constant good performances,” Marko explained. He added that winning the constructors’ title will be challenging.

“Defending the drivers’ title will certainly be less difficult than defending the constructors’ title. As McLaren continues to score points with both drivers in front, that is our biggest problem; we have scored far too few points in the last few races with Checo Perez,” concluded Marko.

Fans might think this news is not surprising given recent performances.
