Marko Claims Horner Assumed Mateschitz’s Role Amid Challenging Times

Helmut Marko shared that Christian Horner has stepped into the shoes of the late Dietrich Mateschitz, who passed away in October 2022. Red Bull has experienced ups and downs since then, with a stellar 2023 season followed by a challenging 2024.

Marko and Horner haven’t always seen eye to eye, especially after Mateschitz’s death left a gap in Red Bull Racing’s leadership. However, they are determined to work together to reclaim the world title in 2024 and keep Max Verstappen on their team.

“The 2023 season was unique,” Marko remarked. “It was certain that it could not continue like this in motorsport. You cannot win every Grand Prix.”

Marko and Horner: A United Front

Before the 2024 season even began, rumors about Horner caused unrest within the team. These issues led to key figures like Adrian Newey and Jonathan Wheatley departing from Red Bull.

Despite this rocky start, Marko noted, “2024 still started very successfully. Meanwhile, there were turbulences around Christian Horner. Those have now been regulated, I would say.” Fans might wonder if these changes will help or hinder their favorite team’s performance.

The loss of Mateschitz significantly impacted the team’s dynamics, with Horner assuming multiple roles. “Dietrich Mateschitz has been replaced by Horner,” Marko explained. “When such an exceptional personality disappears (Dietrich), there is a big change overall.”

Even with off-track chaos and slower on-track performance, Marko insists that teamwork is key until the final race in Abu Dhabi. “The story with Horner certainly didn’t help,” he admitted. “But we have come to the conclusion that we have to work together. To get a winning car and keep Max.”

What do you think? Can they pull it off?
