Mario Andretti, 84, Aspires for F1 Comeback: Aims for Proper Setup

Mario Andretti is 84, but he seems much younger. The 1978 Formula 1 champion stays in great shape and even drove an F1 car two years ago.

Before the 2022 US Grand Prix at Circuit of the Americas, Andretti got to drive a McLaren MP4/28 on the track. A week before that, he did the same at Laguna Seca with Zak Brown, who drove a McLaren MP4/27. Andretti wasn’t just cruising around; he pushed it to the limit.

Andretti’s Jelly Bowl Experience

When asked if he’d like another go in a Formula 1 car, Andretti’s eyes lit up. “I have to get fitted up properly this time to do it right,” he said. He was grateful to Zak Brown for the chance but wished they had set up the car better. “It was like being in a jelly bowl,” he explained, feeling disappointed that he couldn’t fully enjoy it.

Despite his age, Andretti still has a strong desire to race fast in F1 cars. “Yeah, of course. That’s what we want,” he said with a smile.

Fans might think it’s amazing how much passion Andretti still has for racing.

Andretti’s enthusiasm for racing is as vibrant as ever, and his story inspires many who love speed and adventure. What do you think about his racing spirit?
