Kevin Magnussen is back in action after his penalty points reset to zero.
The Haas driver missed the Azerbaijan Grand Prix but returns this weekend with a clean slate. He had accumulated 12 penalty points over the past year, but now he’s starting fresh.
Magnussen’s future in Formula 1 looks uncertain. Haas has already announced that Oliver Bearman and Esteban Ocon will drive for them in the 2025 season. This leaves only two open seats, and it doesn’t seem like Magnussen is a contender for either Sauber or Red Bull.
Magnussen’s Perspective
With just seven races possibly left in his F1 career, Magnussen finds humor in his situation. "You get punished and then you come back and you’re like, ‘Oh, ready to fk st up now!’ It’s funny how that works," he said in Singapore. He added that the potential of a ban was annoying but didn’t affect his driving style. "I’ve really tried to just say, ‘Look, I need to crack on here and whatever happens happens’."
Fans might think it’s a tough break for him not having a clear future.
During his F1 ban, Bearman took over and impressed by scoring a point in Baku, thanks to a crash between Carlos Sainz and Sergio Perez. Magnussen shared that he offered help but also enjoyed some downtime.
"It was a weekend off," he said. "A little extra bonus weekend off with the family." He watched some of the race while working out at the gym but mostly switched off mentally.
He let the team know he was available for advice but chose to enjoy his unexpected break. "It was kind of a weird feeling," he admitted, "but I didn’t think too much about it."
