Mexican fans booed Lando Norris and no one’s sure why
Sky Sports commentator David Croft noticed something strange during the Mexican Grand Prix weekend – local fans were booing McLaren driver Lando Norris.
“The crowd in the stadium loved to see Max Verstappen. They loved seeing Charles Leclerc,” Croft explained during Sky Sports’ coverage.
But Norris got a completely different reception.
“When I was up there as the drivers were coming through on the track parade, there were a few boos for Lando Norris,” Croft said.
The hostile reaction wasn’t just a one-time thing. The boos actually started before the race and continued afterward.
“There were a few more boos there (after the race) as well. What have the Mexican crowd got against Norris, I wonder?” Croft questioned.
## Bird calls fan reaction “pretty poor”
Former McLaren driver Sam Bird wasn’t happy about the treatment Norris received from Mexican fans, calling it “pretty poor.”
Bird pointed out that Norris had just put on an amazing performance. The McLaren driver absolutely dominated the race, finishing a massive 30 seconds ahead of second place.
That kind of driving deserves cheers, not jeers, according to Bird.
He also shot down rumors that McLaren might be favoring Norris over his teammate – a topic that came up during the post-race press conference.
Interestingly, Norris himself didn’t seem too bothered by the whole situation. When asked about the booing, he just laughed it off and said he hadn’t really noticed it much.
The reason behind the Mexican fans’ apparent dislike for Norris remains a mystery. It’s especially puzzling considering his recent impressive performances and generally likable personality in the paddock.
