Lawson Expresses Sympathy for Ricciardo: ‘Informed Me Weeks Ago’

Liam Lawson is now living his dream, but he feels bad for Daniel Ricciardo. The Australian won’t be finishing the 2024 Formula 1 season with Visa Cash App RB.

Lawson shared that he knew about this a few weeks ago, which made the Singapore Grand Prix less enjoyable for him. He discussed this during an interview with Newstalk ZB in New Zealand. During that weekend, there were strong rumors about Ricciardo’s future, but nothing official from the team. Ricciardo had to face questions without revealing much and was very emotional after Sunday’s race.

Lawson said it was tough to watch: “We all knew what was coming. Daniel has always been very good to me. When I drove last year and even this season, he never made me feel like we were in competition. So it wasn’t a nice feeling,” he mentioned.

Lawson can’t imagine what Ricciardo was going through

Ricciardo knew it was his last race, though he didn’t say it openly. Lawson respects how Ricciardo handled everything. “I can’t really imagine what that’s like… it’s similar to my situation last year, but he’s way more famous and had to dodge a lot of questions.”

Lawson had a contract with Red Bull that required him to secure a seat in Formula One by Sunday in Azerbaijan or else be free to leave. “A couple of weeks ago, they told me what was going to happen, and soon after, it was set in stone,” Lawson reflected.

Fans might think it’s sad to see such changes in the sport.

Life can be unpredictable; one moment you’re on top, the next you’re not. What do you think about these sudden shifts?
