Lance Stroll‘s race ended before it even began at the Brazilian Grand Prix when he spun off during the formation lap and got stuck in the gravel. Former driver Giedo van der Garde was not impressed by this mishap.
In a podcast, Van der Garde expressed his frustration, suggesting that Stroll acted impulsively. “The guy had a short fuse,” he said. “How can you think of something like that, standing there and then thinking, ‘I’ll just go through the gravel pit back onto the track’. How stupid is that?”
Van der Garde mentioned how Yuki Tsunoda got stuck in the gravel earlier, yet Stroll seemed to ignore this. He imagined Stroll thinking, “‘Yeah boy, I’m spinning now, wing probably broken, everyone thinks what a knobby guy I am.’ Maybe he had a technical problem, we all don’t know. And then, you know what; I put it in the gravel trap and go home.”
Van der Garde sees unhappy Stroll in F1
Van der Garde questioned if Stroll belongs in Formula 1. He noted that Stroll often looks unhappy around the paddock and wondered if he’s having fun at all. Despite this observation, Van der Garde acknowledged that Stroll has achieved some decent results this season. “He beat Alonso several times, he was really fast,” he admitted. “Only I think they have a very difficult car.”
Fans might wonder if Stroll’s performance issues are due to personal struggles or just bad luck.
