Max Verstappen lost to Lando Norris by over 22 seconds at Zandvoort last weekend. His dad, Jos, shared how this affected Max and mentioned that Max had sensed problems at Red Bull Racing months ago but wasn’t taken seriously.
Jos said on the Coen & Sander Show, “No, we all didn’t expect that. It was also a huge disappointment that that happened.”
After the race, Max felt pretty down. He’s still fighting hard, but it’s tough because things aren’t coming together. This weekend looks difficult too.
Red Bull Racing didn’t believe Verstappen
Jos thinks Red Bull has made no real progress with their updates. He said, “I think all the updates that have been made have not brought what they thought they would bring. As a result, you do stand still a bit. The others are making really big strides. Standing still is going backwards. Especially in Formula 1.” Fans might feel frustrated hearing this news.
Max knew from the start of the season that the car wasn’t right. Jos revealed, “At the beginning of the season where you then win races, then of course it all feels right, but he also said then that the balance is not right.” Max complained about it three months ago, but no one believed him or saw it. Now it’s too late to fix easily.
Winning the world title is still their goal, but Jos admits it might be hard. “Max never gives up. Championship is more important,” he said. Even if they finish second or third each time, it could mean not winning the championship in the end.
