Alpine’s newest driver Jack Doohan isn’t letting the rumors about his future get to him. He’s fired up and ready to prove himself in his rookie Formula 1 season.
“I’m very motivated,” Doohan told Sky Sports. “I just want to get on track and do the work with my hands and feet, steering that car as best as I can.”
The buzz started when Alpine brought on Franco Colapinto as their reserve driver, leading to whispers about Doohan’s job security. But Alpine’s boss Oliver Oakes quickly shut down those rumors, promising Doohan would get a “fair crack” at showing what he can do.
For the 21-year-old Australian, this is a dream come true.
“I’ve been watching these guys ever since I was a little boy, especially Lewis Hamilton,” Doohan said. “To be one of the 20 drivers on the grid, it’s super special.”
His journey starts with winter testing in Bahrain from February 24-26, before heading to his home country for the season opener. The Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne (March 14-16) will be Doohan’s first real test against the sport’s elite.
“I’m stoked to be a part of it,” he said after spending time with his new team. “Being with the team all last week and capturing our moments ahead of the year – it’s been great.”
The young driver seems focused on one thing: proving he belongs among F1’s best and “cementing my place here for the future.”
