Alpine is on the hunt for a new driver next season.
Esteban Ocon‘s departure leaves an open spot, and Jack Doohan might fill it. Bruno Famin, the team boss, confirmed to Sky Sports in Canada that Doohan is a strong candidate.
Ocon’s exit follows his collision with Pierre Gasly during Monaco’s opening lap. Famin was furious and promised consequences for Ocon, who will now leave at the season’s end.
Alpine team boss on Doohan as an option
Doohan seems like a good fit to replace Ocon. He finished third in last season’s Formula 2 championship and is part of Alpine’s driver academy, currently serving as their reserve driver. This gives him an edge over other candidates.
Famin said: “Jack is an option. We are preparing him. He has quite a fierce test programme. We are happy with that. Let’s see how he develops. He is one of several drivers we are keeping an eye on, but he is definitely a contender.”
When asked if Doohan was the favorite for the seat, Famin laughed and dodged the question: “There is no… I’m not going to respond to this, I’m not going to answer this question. Good try!”
Fans might think it’s exciting to see fresh talent getting a chance.
