Investigation Demanded: Is Liberty Media Facing Challenges?

A Belgian MEP is urging the European Commission to investigate Liberty Media for possibly not following fair competition rules. In the U.S., there’s already a probe into whether Liberty Media broke any rules by keeping Andretti Global off the F1 grid.

Back in September 2016, Liberty Media took over the commercial rights of Formula 1. Now, they’re eyeing MotoGP, while their sister company, Liberty Global, owns Formula E.

Is Liberty Media Creating a Monopoly?

Pascal Arimont thinks Liberty Media might be forming a monopoly. He told Het Belang van Limburg that Andretti’s attempt to join F1 was blocked for now. “Commercial agreements make it very difficult for new teams to enter F1, restricting competition in an illegal way,” he said.

In the U.S., authorities are already looking into why Andretti was turned away. Even though the FIA gave Andretti the green light, Formula One Management said no. With Arimont speaking up, there might be an investigation in Europe too. He wants to ensure Liberty Media is playing by the rules to keep things fair for consumers and competitors alike.

Fans might wonder if this means more drama on and off the track!
