Helmut Marko said before the British Grand Prix that the RB20’s new floor added six points of downforce.
But Christian Horner disagrees with this claim from the 81-year-old advisor.
“How would Helmut know? Six points. How does he know?” Horner joked in an interview. “I think your figure is incorrect. I think that you’ve obviously picked that up spluriously. But, look, I mean, it’s no secret that we have less development time than the others and we’re at the top of the curve. So, you’re into diminishing returns.”
Lesser big steps forward
Red Bull Racing dominated last season and finished first in the constructors’ standings. Because of this, they get fewer hours in the wind tunnel to test updates compared to other teams like McLaren, who finished fourth and have more testing time.
These rules have been in place since 2022. The gap between teams has almost disappeared even though they keep introducing new parts. However, these upgrades don’t bring as much improvement as they used to.
“I think there’s stuff we have in the pipeline that whilst we are at the top of the curve, there are still gains to be had,” Horner said.
Fans might find this news a bit surprising.
Even with less testing time, Red Bull believes there are still some improvements to be made.
