Honda President Anticipates ‘Conflicts’ with Newey at Aston Martin

Honda Racing Corporation’s president, Koji Watanabe, anticipates some bumps in the road when Adrian Newey starts his work with Aston Martin in 2025. Newey will be involved in designing the 2026 car, marking Honda’s new journey with the team from Silverstone. Yet, Watanabe is optimistic that these challenges will ultimately help them reach the top of the global stage.

Newey’s role at Aston Martin begins in 2025, focusing on the 2026 car due to major rule changes for engines and chassis that year. His history with Honda includes successful collaborations at Red Bull, where Max Verstappen clinched multiple World Championships.

Honda President Looks Ahead to Newey Partnership

In a chat with Autosport, Watanabe expressed confidence about working together despite expecting some disagreements. He welcomed Newey but acknowledged potential conflicts.

“While we build the PU and they build the car’s chassis, there are times when our visions don’t always align. In such cases, there are conflicts between what the chassis team wants and what the PU team wants, but together, we’ve managed to create the best car in the world. With Newey now at Aston Martin, I expect similar challenges to arise, but I hope this will lead to the Aston Martin Honda team becoming the best in the world. We’re prepared for some conflicts. Of course, it’s not just with Newey,” he said.

Fans might think this partnership could bring exciting changes to Aston Martin’s future!

The anticipation is palpable as everyone wonders how these two powerhouses will mesh their talents and ideas. Will it be smooth sailing or a rocky road? Only time will tell!
