Herbert Reveals Post-FIA Career Plans

Johnny Herbert isn’t taking much time off after leaving his FIA steward role. The former F1 driver has already landed an exciting new gig with legendary racing company Lola, where he’ll help shape the future of electric racing.

Just one day after the FIA announced Herbert’s departure, the 60-year-old Brit revealed he’s joining Lola as their global ambassador, with a special focus on their Formula E program.

But that’s not all he’ll be doing.

Herbert will be diving deep into Lola’s push for sustainable racing, working on three major fronts: electric vehicles, hydrogen power, and eco-friendly materials. It’s a pretty big shift from his previous role judging racing incidents.

“It’s hugely exciting to be involved with an iconic brand like Lola,” Herbert said. “I grew up seeing Lolas everywhere – in Formula Ford, sportscars, and F1. This just feels right.”

The racing veteran will also be putting his connections to good use, working directly with sponsors and helping grow the business.

For Lola, getting Herbert on board is a major win.

“Having Johnny join the Lola team is a real landmark moment,” said Till Bechtolsheimer, Lola’s president. “I’ve watched his talent and sportsmanship throughout his career. He’s not just an ideal ambassador – his experience will be priceless for our current and future drivers.”

The company’s chief commercial officer, Keith Smout, thinks Herbert’s global reputation will open new doors. “He’s respected worldwide, and his connections in motorsport are exactly what we need right now.”

It’s quite a turnaround for Herbert, who just yesterday was making headlines for his FIA exit. Now he’s helping shape the future of sustainable racing with one of motorsport’s most historic names.
