Lewis Hamilton celebrated a win at the British Grand Prix and then secured a podium finish in Hungary. However, he believes Mercedes still trails behind some competitors.
In Hungary, Hamilton finished third and had a minor collision with Max Verstappen. The stewards didn’t take action but noted he could have avoided it.
First Stint: A Glimmer of Hope
Hamilton mentioned that pure pace wasn’t enough to challenge Verstappen. “Unfortunately, we’re still not, in hot conditions particularly… So you saw in Austria and here, we’re not able to keep up with these guys,” he said.
But there was something positive about the race. During the first stint on medium tires, Hamilton was surprised by how well he kept up with Max without pushing too hard. He felt hopeful about fighting for a better position.
Fans might think this shows there’s still potential for improvement.
However, things went downhill during the second stint. Hamilton described it as a disaster because the car’s true pace showed on those tires. But thanks to their strategy and getting an undercut, they managed to secure track position which made all the difference.
In simple terms: How do you feel about Mercedes’ performance?
