Hamilton Drives Ferrari SF-26 During Barcelona Testing

Hamilton Takes First Spin in Ferrari SF-26 at Barcelona Shakedown

Lewis Hamilton hit the track in Ferrari’s SF-26 for the first time at Barcelona-Catalunya circuit today, marking a significant moment in his much-anticipated move to the legendary Italian team.

The seven-time world champion replaced teammate Charles Leclerc during the afternoon session on day two of running at the Montmelo track.

This isn’t Hamilton’s first time in the car – he previously tested it during Ferrari’s initial shakedown at Fiorano – but it represents his first extended run in Barcelona.

Hamilton completed several installation laps before heading back to the pits. He then began his planned testing program as the team gathered crucial data on their 2026 challenger.

Red Bull also made a driver switch for the afternoon session, with junior driver Isack Hadjar taking over from Max Verstappen.

Verstappen tops morning timesheets despite weather challenges

The morning session saw Verstappen set the pace with a time in the 1:20.00s range.

Leclerc finished about eight tenths behind the four-time world champion.

Both drivers faced tricky conditions as unpredictable weather forced teams to adapt their strategies throughout the session, switching between dry and wet running.

The changeable conditions gave teams valuable experience in different scenarios but likely limited their ability to gather consistent performance data.

Several other teams, including McLaren who opted against running on Tuesday, are expected to join the action in the coming days as preparations for the 2026 season continue.

This pre-season testing period gives teams their first real opportunity to evaluate their new cars built to the dramatically different 2026 regulations.
