Hamilton Criticizes Mercedes: Claims Different Tyre Could Have Secured Pole Position

Lewis Hamilton wasn’t happy with Mercedes’ strategy during the Belgian Grand Prix qualifying.

He finished fourth but will start in third because of Max Verstappen‘s penalty. Still, he felt Mercedes made bad choices.

“I think we could’ve been higher if our timing was right in that last stint. We nearly missed Q1, not due to pace but because they called me in too late,” Hamilton said. “I only had one new set of tires at the end. If I had another set, I might’ve got pole.”

Can Hamilton win the Belgian Grand Prix?

Mercedes has been doing well lately, getting a podium in each of the last five races and even winning two in a row. But Hamilton isn’t too optimistic about Belgium. “There’s a slight chance for a podium, but it’ll be really tough,” he admitted, worried about Verstappen’s speed.

“There are faster McLarens behind us and quicker Red Bulls ahead and coming up from behind. Ferrari is on par with us performance-wise,” he added. “We were a second off yesterday; others had strong race pace. I’m hoping overnight changes improve our car.”

Fans might wonder if Mercedes can surprise everyone this time.

Hamilton also mentioned that wet conditions helped him during qualifying, but it’s not expected to rain on Sunday .

What do you think? Can Hamilton pull off a surprise win?
