Gasly Envious of Norris & Verstappen but Thrilled for F1: ‘I’m Enjoying It’

Pierre Gasly shared his thoughts on the current state of Formula 1. He thinks it’s “great” that there are four teams fighting at most race weekends, even though he’s not in the mix himself.

Alpine had higher hopes for this season but is currently ninth in the Constructors’ Championship, just ahead of Sauber. With six race weekends left, they are still close to eighth-placed Williams. Off the track, Alpine has faced issues like another change in team principal and debates about continuing to build their own engines.

Gasly is happy to see intense competition in Formula 1 despite his team’s struggles. “Well, first of all, I wish I’d be part of it,” Gasly laughed. “But then, as a fan of the sport, I think it’s great. I think F1 is in a very good spot at the minute,” he said, having scored only eight points this season.

Gasly hopes for a more level playing field in 2026

Red Bull Racing is battling with McLaren, Ferrari, and Mercedes. “I’m really enjoying the four-team battle because that’s how I think the sport should be. Having three or four teams fighting for race wins every weekend, everybody enjoys that. As a sport, I think it’s great,” Gasly reiterated.

The new rules aimed to bring teams closer together but haven’t fully succeeded yet. “Somehow, new regulations were made to put the whole field closer. It did put the first four closer, but there’s still quite a big gap with the midfield. But yeah, definitely as a sport, I think we’re heading in the right direction. Hopefully, ‘26 is not going to split that too much.”

Fans might feel hopeful about these changes and look forward to more exciting races.
