Formula 1 Driver Joins Japanese Racing Series After Being Ousted

Doohan Seeks New Racing Path in Japan’s Super Formula

Jack Doohan is taking a fresh swing at his racing career in Japan’s Super Formula this week. The Australian driver, who spent most of last F1 season watching from the sidelines at Alpine, is now testing his skills on Japanese circuits.

After losing his shot at an F1 race seat, Doohan went back to Alpine as their test and reserve driver. But his future with the French team looks shaky at best.

This Super Formula test might be exactly what he needs right now.

Toyota opened the door for Doohan’s Japanese adventure, which is particularly interesting given Toyota’s growing relationship with the Haas F1 team.

There’s talk that Doohan could end up as Haas’s backup reserve driver alongside Ryo Hirakawa, while still competing full-time in Super Formula with a Toyota-connected team.

It could be the perfect balancing act to keep his F1 dreams alive.

Williams’ Rising Star Also Testing in Japan

Luke Browning is joining Doohan on Japanese soil this week. The young Williams Racing driver jumped straight from Tuesday’s F1 Young Rookie Test to catch a flight to Japan.

When we asked Williams if this test means Browning is heading for a full-time Super Formula seat, they kept their cards close to their chest.

What we do know is that Browning is lined up to become Williams’ reserve driver for the 2026 F1 season.

That’s still a way off, and Super Formula could be the perfect training ground in the meantime.

Post-Season Action Continues in Abu Dhabi

While some drivers are testing in Japan, plenty of action continues at the Yas Marina Circuit after the season finale.
