Former German driver has dropped a bombshell about Ferrari’s upcoming SF-26 car, describing it as a potential “disaster” during his appearance on Sky Deutschland’s Backstage Boxengasse podcast.
“If that’s the case, it’s a disaster from the outset,” he warned. “I’ve always said you can’t develop two cars. And Fred Vasseur has hinted at it himself as well. So it all seems far from ideal.”
The Italian team is staring down their 19th straight season without a world championship.
Last year was another tough pill to swallow for the legendary Maranello outfit, who failed to win a single Grand Prix.
Charles Leclerc did manage to salvage something from the season, climbing onto the podium seven times despite the car’s limitations.
Meanwhile, Lewis Hamilton struggled through a disappointing first year with Ferrari. His Sprint race victory in China stands as one of the few highlights in what was otherwise a forgettable campaign.
The SF-26 is set to be unveiled on January 23, but these latest comments will only fuel concerns that Ferrari might still be playing catch-up to their rivals.
