Ferrari Under Pressure as Hamilton Remains a Championship Contender

Former F1 driver Riccardo Patrese believes Ferrari has made a smart choice by signing Lewis Hamilton. He thinks Hamilton, with the right car, can win another championship.

Hamilton was expected to finish his career at Mercedes, but he’s now joining Ferrari in 2025. The seven-time champion will be racing for them until at least 2026. Patrese supports this move for Hamilton.

“Everyone loves being able to go to Ferrari, because many have done it, many world champions. Now it is becoming a reality. Ferrari has made a very good purchase,” Patrese shared while promoting his book ‘I am a Survivor’. Hamilton’s time with Mercedes is nearing its end.

Pressure on Ferrari to deliver?

Ferrari currently leads Mercedes in the Constructors’ Championship and trails Red Bull Racing by just 34 points. While Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz have won races this year, McLaren seems to have a more versatile car for different tracks. Patrese emphasizes that it’s up to Ferrari to provide Hamilton with a competitive car.

“Now it’s up to them to give Hamilton a car to aim for the world championship, because he is still capable of aiming for the world championship, just like Leclerc,” he said. Fans might wonder if Ferrari can truly deliver on this promise. “Motivation after so many years in Formula 1 only comes if there is a chance of getting a result,” Patrese added. He also mentioned that Hamilton’s unique personality could positively impact the Italian team environment. At first, he wasn’t convinced by Hamilton, but now he appreciates what he’s accomplished and how he conducts himself.

What do you think? Will Ferrari give Hamilton what he needs?
