Ferrari’s team leader, Frederic Vasseur, mentioned that if there are promising opportunities, they will introduce more enhancements to the SF-24. This comes after recent improvements helped Charles Leclerc clinch his third victory of the 2024 season, achieving a one-two finish with Carlos Sainz for Ferrari—their first since 2006.
Leclerc has been a beacon of hope for Ferrari this season, winning at Monaco and delighting fans at the Italian Grand Prix. These victories showed Ferrari’s potential to compete at the top, though inconsistent race pace has been a hurdle.
At the United States Grand Prix, those upgrades shone brightly as Ferrari outpaced McLaren and Red Bull. Now, they’re eyeing a late push for the constructors’ title at the Mexican Grand Prix this weekend.
Challenges Await in Mexico
Vasseur admits that racing in Mexico City presents unique challenges compared to last week’s race: “The next one is a one-off. With the altitude, it’s a big challenge in terms of cooling for the brakes, for the engine, and so on.” The track there is 2,285 meters above sea level—the highest in F1—posing extra difficulties for teams. Can Ferrari’s upgrades handle this high-altitude test? Vasseur hinted that Brazil might be more similar to Austin.
Fans might wonder if these changes can keep up with expectations.
As they aim to stay competitive until the season’s end, more upgrades could be on the horizon. Vasseur noted that any new developments would likely be seen not in Vegas but possibly in Qatar.
