Ferrari’s recent hot streak hit a speed bump in Brazil, but team boss Fred Vasseur isn’t letting that slow down his hopes for Las Vegas.
The Italian team’s back-to-back wins at Austin and Mexico City seemed like distant memories after a tough weekend at Interlagos. Charles Leclerc managed fifth place, while Carlos Sainz crashed out completely.
That left Ferrari with just 10 points – not great when their rivals McLaren grabbed 12.
“We’ll bounce back stronger in Vegas,” Vasseur said with a grin. He’s got good reason to be optimistic – Ferrari showed real pace there last year, with Leclerc grabbing pole position and finishing second behind Max Verstappen.
Sainz’s luck in Vegas needs to change though. Last year, his car got damaged by a loose drain cover, but Vasseur’s confident his driver will come back fighting.
The team boss had his own Vegas drama in 2022, getting in hot water with race officials after that drain cover incident. “I’m thinking carefully about what to say this time,” he laughed, probably remembering how both Verstappen and Leclerc got penalized for swearing this season.
There’s a lot at stake for Ferrari. They’re trailing McLaren by 36 points in the constructor’s championship with just two races to go.
“This isn’t just about not losing points anymore – we need to make them,” Vasseur said. “Brazil wasn’t great, but Vegas is where we need to score big.”
