F2 testing wrapped up in Abu Dhabi last week, with Victor Martins showing impressive speed on the final day of the three-day session.
While F1 grabbed most of the headlines with their post-season testing, the future stars of motorsport were putting in some serious laps just down the pit lane.
The testing gave us a glimpse of tomorrow’s F1 talent, with several young drivers pulling double duty between F2 and F1 cars.
Jak Crawford made the most of his busy week. After jumping into an Aston Martin F1 car for the Young Driver Test, he topped the timesheets on Day 1 of F2 testing with a 1:36.697.
But it was Joshua Duerksen who really turned heads on Day 2. His blistering lap of 1:35.583 wasn’t just fast – it ended up being the quickest time anyone managed across all three days.
Victor Martins wasn’t far behind, closing out the final day with a 1:35.773. Alexander Dunne and Dino Beganovic rounded out the top three on day three.
Some familiar faces from F1’s young driver program were also on track. Mercedes junior Kimi Antonelli got his first taste of F2 machinery, while championship rivals Gabriel Bortoleto and Isack Hadjar showed why they’ve earned seats with Sauber and VCARB’s F1 programs.
Red Bull junior Arvid Lindblad, fresh from F3, put in a solid showing with P13 on the final day, clocking a 1:36.222.
The times might just be testing numbers, but they’re giving us a pretty good idea of who to watch when the 2024 F2 season kicks off.
