F1’s 2024 season gave fans everything they could’ve asked for – epic battles, surprise winners, and enough drama to fill a Netflix series.
Max Verstappen and Lando Norris went head-to-head for the championship, while seven different drivers managed to grab multiple wins throughout the year.
But what moment really defined the season? Let’s look at the biggest highlights that had everyone talking.
Remember Verstappen’s incredible drive in Brazil? After getting knocked out early in qualifying and taking an engine penalty, he started way back in 17th place. It didn’t matter – he dominated the race like it was just another Sunday drive, even with a red flag throwing things off. That win pretty much sealed his fourth championship.
Then there was Lewis Hamilton finally breaking his dry spell. The seven-time champ hadn’t won since Saudi Arabia back in 2021, but he changed that at Silverstone. In typical British weather (yeah, it was wet), Hamilton kept Verstappen in his rearview mirror to grab win number 104. He didn’t wait long for the next one either, taking the top spot at Spa just a few races later.
Charles Leclerc finally broke his Monaco curse too. After years of crashes and strategy mishaps at his home race, he nailed it perfectly this time. He didn’t just win – he controlled the race from start to finish, keeping a charging Oscar Piastri behind him. He later pulled off the same trick at Monza, Ferrari’s home turf.
But the real fireworks came in Austria. Verstappen and Norris gave us the battle of the season there. Max was cruising after winning in Spain and the Sprint, but a slow pit stop and a lockup changed everything. The two ended up tangling, both got punctures, and while Norris had to call it quits, Verstappen limped home to fifth with a penalty.
The season wrapped up with some serious off-track drama between Verstappen and George Russell. It all started in Qatar qualifying when Max slowed down in front of Russell while making space for Alonso. What seemed like a small incident turned into a full-blown feud, with Max saying he’d lost respect for Russell. Things got so tense that Russell wouldn’t even sit next to Max at the drivers’ dinner in Abu Dhabi.
This controversy, plus the constructors’ championship fight, kept everyone glued to their screens right until the final checkered flag of the season.
