F1’s Albon Slams FIA’s Strict Penalty System

F1 drivers are pushing back against tough new rules that could see them hit with massive fines just for swearing during races.

Williams driver Alex Albon didn’t mince words when asked about the controversial penalties during his team’s 2025 car launch.

“It’s a tricky question,” he said carefully. “We deserve our say in our own thing. We don’t want this excessive control over our own opinions. I don’t think any other sport has that.”

Then he quickly changed the subject: “Great, we go to the next question!”

The FIA, F1’s governing body, has been stirring up drama lately. Their president Mohammed Ben Sulayem and the organization’s conduct have become hot topics as the new season approaches.

These aren’t just small fines we’re talking about. Drivers could face serious financial penalties for what the FIA considers bad behavior – even something as simple as cursing during the heat of competition.

The Grand Prix Drivers’ Association (GPDA) might fight back. Their president Alexander Wurz says drivers haven’t had time to properly respond yet, but they’re planning to discuss it.

While Wurz isn’t exactly pro-swearing, he believes drivers should be allowed to be themselves on track.

The tension between F1’s stars and its governing body keeps building. With the season about to start, everyone’s wondering if these strict new rules will change how drivers express themselves during races.
