F1 News Today: Sainz Joins Williams, Perez’s Future in Question

Carlos Sainz announced on Monday that he will join Williams in 2025. Meanwhile, Sergio Perez‘s future with Red Bull is uncertain as the team deliberates his position.

Sainz signed a multi-year contract with Williams and expressed his excitement about joining the historic team. “I am very happy to announce that I will be joining Williams Racing from 2025 onwards. It is no secret that this year’s driver market has been exceptionally complex for various reasons and that it has taken me some time to announce my decision. However, I am fully confident that Williams is the right place for me to continue my F1 journey and I am extremely proud of joining such a historic and successful team, where many of my childhood heroes drove in the past and made their mark on our sport,” Sainz shared.

Red Bull’s Dilemma:

After another tough weekend in Belgium, Perez faces an uncertain future as Red Bull decides his fate. Christian Horner and Marko are meeting in England today to discuss whether Perez deserves to stay with the team or if they should consider other options like Daniel Ricciardo or Liam Lawson.

Back home, Perez can’t walk down the street without being asked for selfies or autographs. But fans’ enthusiasm seems to be fading after his recent performances. Esto, a top sports outlet in Mexico, criticized him harshly after Belgium, saying “Checo Perez, from bad to worse.” They pointed out how he started second but finished eighth (later moved up one spot due to George Russell‘s disqualification). The media noted this was his ninth race without a podium finish and blamed Red Bull’s poor strategy too.

Fans might think it’s time for a change at Red Bull given these results.

The British media felt George Russell’s heartbreak deeply after he lost what seemed like a certain victory just 90 minutes post-race. The Guardian wrote about Russell’s emotional rollercoaster during the Belgian Grand Prix: “George Russell ran the full gamut of emotion from euphoria to heartbreak in what must have been the most painful race of his career,” they reported. “As the slings and arrows go, even fortune herself might feel this went beyond the outrageous.”

What do you think about all these changes?
