F1 News: Newey Defends Verstappen – Will the Dutchman Follow His Lead?

Adrian Newey has officially joined Aston Martin and defended Max Verstappen.

Newey recently criticized Sky Sports for their portrayal of Verstappen during the 2021 title race against Hamilton. He also mentioned that Verstappen suffered a severe concussion after the British Grand Prix that year.

Newey on Red Bull and Verstappen

With Adrian Newey’s move to Aston Martin now public, he has been making the rounds on various podcasts. On the High Performance podcast, he accused Sky Sports of unfairly targeting Max Verstappen during his intense 2021 championship battle with Lewis Hamilton. Newey revealed that following the British Grand Prix in 2021, Verstappen had a serious concussion.

Since Newey’s departure from Red Bull Racing was announced at the Miami GP, the team has started to face more challenges. They currently lead McLaren by only eight points in the constructors’ championship. Verstappen even described the current RB20 car as a “monster.” Fans might wonder if Verstappen will eventually follow Newey to Aston Martin.

Wolff and Vasseur Preview Azerbaijan GP

Toto Wolff and Mercedes are gearing up for the final eight Grands Prix of the season, starting with Azerbaijan. Despite Lewis Hamilton’s win at Spa-Francorchamps, Mercedes missed podium finishes at both Monza and Zandvoort. “We showed good pace at moments across both weekends but were unable to unlock this consistently. We have spent the time since then analysing why this was,” Wolff explained.

Ferrari’s Frederic Vasseur is feeling positive ahead of Baku after their success in Italy. “It is one of Charles’ favourites. We are on a high following the win in Monza and we are determined to maintain this run of form,” said Vasseur.
