Max Verstappen‘s going to save some serious cash on his F1 license next year, even after winning his fourth straight championship. The difference? He wasn’t quite as dominant this time around.
The numbers tell the story. In 2023, Verstappen racked up a massive 575 points. This year? He “only” managed 437.
It might sound strange, but F1 drivers have to pay for their license to race each year. And here’s the kicker – the better you do, the more you pay.
The math is pretty straightforward. Every F1 driver starts with a base fee of €11,453. Then they pay €2,313 for each point they scored the previous season.
For Verstappen, that adds up to just over €1 million for his 2025 license.
That’s actually a nice savings compared to this year’s bill, which was around €1.3 million.
Even with the lower fee, he’ll still be paying more than any other driver on the grid. That’s what happens when you’re at the top of your game.
It’s a unique system in sports – imagine basketball players having to pay more for their league registration after scoring more points. But that’s just how F1 rolls.
The three-time world champion probably isn’t too worried about the bill, though. When you’re breaking records and dominating races like he has been, it’s just the cost of doing business.
