Ex-F1 Driver Reveals Shift in McLaren Drivers’ Lineup: ‘Cracked the Code’

Andrea Stella hasn’t made any track decisions based on his drivers’ standings in 2024.

Lando Norris started the season ahead of Oscar Piastri, but recently, Piastri has been scoring more points. Former F1 driver Karun Chandhok thinks this trend will continue after the summer break.

Lando is currently second in the drivers’ standings, trailing Max Verstappen by 78 points and leading Piastri by 32 points. Chandhok believes that Piastri will close this gap soon. “Budapest was a real standout moment again. Not because he won, but because the manner that he drove the first 40 laps of that race. Last year, Budapest, he was really struggling. He had terrible tyre wear. He just dropped off the cliff and was really struggling,” Chandhok said on The Fast and the Curious podcast.

Chandhok continued praising Piastri: “I thought, ‘okay, he’s cracked it.’ He’s got his head around this Formula One thing. And I think that was a big, big day for him to lay down a marker that he is an equal to Lando.”

Chandhok bets on Piastri

Chandhok thinks Piastri could have a better run after the summer break. Since it’s Piastri’s second year, there are no new tracks left for him to learn. “I think there will be races still on a Sunday where Lando will have a slight edge. I think in qualifying they are equal, actually. But I would probably say that in the second half of the year, I take a little punt and say that Oscar will outscore Lando.”

Fans might find this news exciting as it hints at an intense rivalry between teammates.

Imagine how thrilling it would be if Piastri starts outperforming Norris regularly!

What do you think? Will Piastri outshine Norris?
