Bernie Ecclestone thinks Red Bull Racing has made their driver choice for 2025 tricky. He suggests that Christian Horner and Helmut Marko should have tried Yuki Tsunoda with Max Verstappen to see how he performs.
Sergio Perez hasn’t been doing well lately, and Ecclestone says if he were in charge, Tsunoda would have been driving the RB20 two races ago in Austin. “Then we would now know whether the Japanese driver would really be ready to fight alongside Verstappen,” he told Blick.
Rumors from Brazil hinted at Red Bull wanting someone other than Perez next to Verstappen for the last three races. But who knows if that’s true? Tsunoda will get his chance to prove himself in the RB20 after the final race in Abu Dhabi during a test day at Yas Marina Circuit.
Ecclestone on Bortoleto
Gabriel Bortoleto is set for a 2025 seat. The Formula 2 leader just signed with Sauber/Audi to team up with Nico Hulkenberg. Previously part of McLaren’s junior program, Bortoleto’s move involved some help from Ecclestone.
“Bortoleto’s father thanked us for our help in the transfer of his son Gabriel to Audi-Sauber. We opened a few doors there,” Ecclestone mentioned, without going into details. “The most important thing now is for Bortoleto to immediately find a flat near the factory.”
Fans might wonder if these changes will shake things up or just be more of the same.
What do you think about all these moves?
