Doohan to Replace Ocon in Alpine F1 Season Finale 2024

Jack Doohan is getting his Formula 1 shot earlier than expected. The young Australian will make his F1 debut at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, stepping in for Esteban Ocon who’s already wrapped up his time with Alpine.

It’s a preview of what’s to come – Doohan is already set to take over Ocon’s seat full-time in 2025.

The early switch gives Ocon a chance to get started with his new team, Haas, during the post-season test in Abu Dhabi.

“The team would like to thank Esteban for his time at the team and he will remain part of the team’s history achieving the first win for Alpine in Formula 1. We wish Esteban the best for the future,” Alpine said in a statement.

For his debut race, Doohan will use number 61 – the same number he’s been using as Alpine’s reserve driver.

But here’s a cool detail for F1 fans: when he starts his first full season, he’ll switch to number 7. It’s not just any number – it’s the same one used by his racing hero, Kimi Raikkonen.

The Abu Dhabi race will give Doohan his first real taste of F1 competition, months before his official rookie season begins.
