Domenicali Proudly Celebrates Antonelli’s Debut with Emotion

Andrea Kimi Antonelli will debut in Formula One at Monza. The young Italian, who just turned 18, will drive for Mercedes during the first practice session.

This is a big deal because no Italians are currently racing in Formula One, making it special for local fans.

Domenicali’s Excitement About Antonelli

Stefano Domenicali shared his joy with La Repubblica: “As Italians we are proud, but the news [that Antonelli will drive in FP1 at Monza] is appreciated by everyone. Kimi is a reference point for a great team like Mercedes. It means he is a champion, he is very talented, and he is a great guy with a wonderful family. Let’s not put too much pressure on his shoulders, but finally, an Italian is returning to Formula 1.”

Fans might think this is long overdue and are very excited about it.

Future Seat for Antonelli?

The last Italian in Formula 1 was Antonio Giovinazzi. Domenicali hopes Antonelli can inspire more young Italians to dream big: “Kimi is an extra push to make the Italian boy believe. Next year we will have 20 per cent rookies. New blood always does well.” This could mean that Antonelli might get a full-time seat in the future.
