Andrea Stella has confidence in the stewards and the FIA to manage the racing between Max Verstappen and Lando Norris as the season continues. Despite debates about penalties after their clashes in the United States and Mexican Grands Prix, Stella is content with how Norris has been competing this year.
In Austin, Norris got a five-second penalty for leaving the track to overtake Verstappen. A week later in Mexico City, Verstappen received two ten-second penalties for forcing Norris off the track dangerously. Discussions have emerged about how drivers should compete, but Stella doesn’t focus on these.
“Not at all,” said Stella during a Friday press conference in Sao Paulo when asked if Norris should change his approach against Verstappen. He emphasized that while they learned from getting too close in Austria, resulting in lost points due to a collision, they don’t regret many other points this season.
Stella trusts the stewards despite Austin disagreement
Stella mentioned they still believe the final results from Austin weren’t right, but they respect the stewards’ decisions. They tried to review the situation but chose to move forward when it didn’t change.
Lando’s racing mirrors their values of fairness and sportsmanship. In tight battles, stewards play a crucial role, and Stella trusts them. He felt that stewarding worked well in Mexico, leading to good racing.
Fans might think it’s good that Stella stands by his driver through thick and thin.
What do you think? Is trusting the stewards always the best choice?
