Oliver Bearman clinched the last point in the Azerbaijan Grand Prix by overtaking his Haas teammate late in the race. Nico Hulkenberg faced difficulties and confusion after navigating through the debris from Carlos Sainz and Sergio Perez‘s crash, describing it as a “war zone.”

Bearman’s achievement marked a unique milestone in Formula 1 history. At just 19, he became the first driver to score points in his first two races for different F1 teams. He substituted for Carlos Sainz at Ferrari during the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, earning six points, and then secured another point in Azerbaijan while filling in for the banned Kevin Magnussen.

How Bearman Managed to Achieve This Feat:

During the race, Bearman initially had to let his teammate pass. The collision between Perez and Sainz bumped him up to P11, but he still needed to overtake his teammate before the Virtual Safety Car (VSC) was deployed. Hulkenberg shared what went wrong on his end.

“The incident was a massive crash, a massive war zone, debris everywhere. I was surprised. It was double yellow, and then it was back to green, which confused me, and I got caught off guard there and lost positions. Very surreal last two laps, unfortunately, where we came out on the wrong side of it. I hit something quite big and substantial. I wasn’t sure where my front wing was. I had a quite big hit on the front, very confusing,” Hulkenberg said.

Fans might think it’s amazing how quickly Bearman has made an impact.

Unless something unexpected happens, Bearman won’t return to Formula 1 this season. Haas confirmed this news shortly after team boss Ayao Komatsu hinted it might be possible. However, Bearman has already secured a full-time seat with Haas next year. He will team up with Esteban Ocon, who is moving from Alpine.
