The recent clash at the United States Grand Prix between Max Verstappen and Lando Norris is still causing a stir in Mexico. Norris got a penalty for passing Verstappen off-track, but Verstappen also crossed the white lines.
Formula 1 drivers crave clear rules. They want to know what’s fair and what isn’t. According to FIA rules, if you’re ahead at the corner’s apex, it’s your corner. But many drivers dislike this because it left Norris with no chance to pass Verstappen on the outside.
“I feel like they are expecting us to drive like a machine, like AI,” Tsunoda commented before the Mexican Grand Prix. “It’s battling between drivers. It’s passion, trying to fight each other’s passion, right? And if they remove that, it’s just going to be like AI fighting.”
Magnussen Points Out IndyCar
Kevin Magnussen isn’t thrilled with current racing rules. He finds them too strict and not great for racing now. “I’ve said what I think, I don’t know whether that’s going to make difference,” he shared.
Magnussen understands that crafting clear guidelines is tough for the FIA. “Drivers always complain when penalties are given,” he noted. He suggests looking at other series like IndyCar for inspiration since it works well in his view.
“They run on different tracks without track limit issues,” Magnussen added. “But even so, there’s still stuff we can learn from them.” Fans might wonder if stricter rules take away the fun of hard racing.
