Nyck de Vries was on track to earn points in the last Super Formula race of the season until a time penalty dashed his hopes. He felt let down by the penalty, hinting that such rules are unique to Japan’s racing scene.
Starting from 17th, De Vries faced early trouble when his front wing got damaged due to an incident ahead. Despite this, he clawed his way up the ranks, helped by a well-timed safety car.
De Vries and the Time Penalty
Crossing the finish line in 8th place seemed like a win, but then came a five-second penalty for pushing Kenta Yamashita off track. This dropped him to 11th, leaving him without any points.
Unhappy with the decision, De Vries voiced his disappointment for his team. He told Motorsport.com that adjusting to these “very specific rules” is challenging. Fans might wonder if these penalties are too harsh or just part of the game.
Expressing his frustration further, he said, “I praise this championship because the cars are great, as is the racing itself. But these kinds of rules that have nothing to do with international racing, I find nonsensical.”
What do you think about these unique rules? Are they fair or just plain confusing?
