The upcoming Formula One race is set to take place in Austin, Texas, at the Circuit of the Americas. The track has been revamped to address racing quality and track limit issues from 2023.
Last year, drivers frequently exceeded track limits, prompting Haas to demand a ‘right to review’ for detailed scrutiny of these infractions. This was crucial as many drivers faced penalties during the race, and other teams also voiced dissatisfaction with the race officials’ response.
New Adjustments at the Circuit of the Americas
To tackle last season’s troubles, changes have been implemented at the circuit. The asphalt verges at Turns 6, 13, 14, and 15 have been narrowed by 1.5 meters and replaced with grass. This aims to discourage drivers from crossing the white line. Cameras are now positioned strategically to monitor track limits more effectively.
Additionally, Turn 11’s exit has seen an upgrade with resin-coated ‘fake’ gravel, similar to what was used at Zandvoort. This area was previously an asphalt run-off zone but now serves as a deterrent while preventing gravel from spilling onto the track. This change is experimental to satisfy both Formula 1 and MotoGP standards. New asphalt has also been laid down to smooth out bumps that were criticized last year.
Fans might think these changes will make races more exciting and fairer for everyone involved.
Interestingly, while discussing these modifications, one might wonder if any unexpected surprises await during the race weekend—like a sudden downpour or an unexpected celebrity appearance!
