Brundle Raises Doubts Over Red Bull’s Setback: ‘It All Seems Too Strange’

Martin Brundle thinks Red Bull Racing’s recent struggles are very odd, especially after the Italian Grand Prix.

He finds it puzzling how Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez‘s team has declined so much.

Brundle calls Red Bull’s loss of form ‘too strange’

Brundle noted that Red Bull started Verstappen and Perez on hard tires, hoping a different strategy would work since they were starting from seventh and eighth places. “With the front runners racing the wheels and tyres off each other this looked smart, especially in the absence of a safety car,” he wrote in his Sky Sports column.

However, things went downhill quickly. Verstappen’s first pit stop was a disaster. “But some scruffy pit stops on laps 22 and 23 respectively, and thereafter relatively poor pace and opting for a two-stop strategy would consign Red Bull to sixth and eighth places,” Brundle explained.

After the race, Verstappen called the car a ‘monster.’ Brundle found it bizarre: “They dominated the early season, and last year in Monza Max won his 10th straight race at a canter. This year he finished 38 seconds behind the winner.” Even Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff noticed Red Bull’s poor performance.

Fans might think this sudden drop is shocking.
