Lewis Hamilton and Jerry Bruckheimer talk F1 movie sequel plans
Seven-time Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton has met with legendary producer Jerry Bruckheimer to brainstorm ideas for a sequel to F1: The Movie.
“We met with Lewis Hamilton a couple of weeks ago, and started talking about some ideas,” Bruckheimer told Forbes.
The original film, released in June, has been a massive hit, raking in around $630 million worldwide. It’s now Apple Studios’ highest-grossing film ever.
Starring Brad Pitt and Damson Idris as drivers for the fictional APXGP team, the movie has connected with audiences who might not typically watch racing films.
Bruckheimer’s been busy promoting the film in London, hosting multiple screenings for new viewers.
“We’ve screened the movie twice every night for the last three nights. We have the audience in there, and the first question I ask them is, ‘How many of you have not seen this movie?'”
The answer surprised him.
“80% of the hands go up, and it’s unbelievable. The other 20% have seen it several times. People that haven’t seen it say, ‘Oh, it’s not my kind of movie.’ It is your kind of movie. It’s emotional, fun, and it’s a great night out at the theatre.”
Hamilton wasn’t just a consultant on the project – he served as an executive producer and even made a cameo appearance on screen.
But don’t expect a rushed sequel. Hamilton is taking a cautious approach to any follow-up film.
“Most sequels are way worse, and so we don’t need to rush it,” he told GPblog earlier this year. “I think if we do do a sequel, I would say let’s really, really take our time in getting it even better.”
## Hamilton’s challenging Ferrari debut
Off-screen, Hamilton’s been dealing with some real-life drama in his first season with Ferrari after leaving Mercedes following a 12-year stint.
At 40, the British driver is still searching for his first podium with the Italian team.
There was a brief glimmer of hope during the season’s second round in China when Hamilton won the Sprint race.
Despite that early success, he now finds himself trailing teammate Charles Leclerc by 64 points in the championship standings. Ferrari is yet to win a Grand Prix in the 2025 season.
