Aston Martin’s Alonso Thrilled: ‘Would’ve Paid Part of Newey’s Salary Himself’

Aston Martin’s technical team just got a major boost with Adrian Newey joining their ranks. Mike Krack, the team principal, was thrilled about the new addition and even joked that Alonso was ready to chip in for Newey’s salary.

Krack couldn’t hide his excitement when Aston Martin made the official announcement. “It’s very exciting for all of us. I’m still smiling. Do you see me smiling?” he said during a chat in Baku.

He went on to describe how hard it was to stop grinning. The news brought a wave of enthusiasm within the team. Although it wasn’t much of a secret, seeing 800 people cheer when the news broke was incredible. And when Newey took the stage, the excitement only grew.

Alonso’s Enthusiasm

Newey had clear preferences after leaving Red Bull Racing; he wanted to work with either Hamilton or Alonso. Interestingly, Alonso has immense respect for Newey’s work. Krack humorously mentioned that Alonso was so eager about Newey joining that he offered to pay part of his wages. “He was even saying that he will pay his wages to pay Adrian,” Krack joked.
