There has been a lot of talk about where Adrian Newey will go after leaving Red Bull Racing.
Ferrari and Williams both showed interest, but Aston Martin won the race to sign him.
Why Aston Martin?
This move ends months of speculation in Formula 1. The reasons for Newey’s choice will be clearer soon. Aston Martin’s big investments in new facilities like factories and wind tunnels likely influenced his decision. Plus, he doesn’t need to relocate to Italy. The attractive salary offered by Aston Martin probably helped too. Also, continuing to work with Honda, his successful engine partner from Red Bull, must have been appealing.
Fans might think this is a surprising twist.
Impact on Ferrari and Hamilton
Ferrari will miss out on Newey, which means Lewis Hamilton won’t get to work with him when he joins Ferrari in 2025. Fred Vasseur hinted at upcoming changes in the technical team at Monza, but Newey isn’t part of it.
Max Verstappen is also unhappy about this. He wanted Newey to stay at Red Bull. “I’ve always said that I would have liked for Adrian to stay, always,” he shared. “But it’s not about that now. Last year, we had a great car, which was the most dominant car ever and we basically turned it into a monster. So we have to turn it around.”
