Argentina Seeks to Host GP Inspired by the ‘Verstappen Effect’ for Colapinto

Franco Colapinto has reignited Argentina’s love for Formula 1.

The country now wants to host its own Grand Prix for the first time since 1998, inspired by the support Colapinto received in Monza, Baku, and Singapore.

Argentina want to host Formula 1

Max Verstappen‘s success in the Netherlands led to a surge in motorsport enthusiasm there. Similarly, when Williams signed Colapinto to replace Logan Sargeant, Argentina caught the F1 fever. This excitement helped bring back the Dutch Grand Prix, and Argentina’s sports minister aims to replicate that success at the Autódromo Oscar Alfredo Gálvez, a track with a history of hosting Grand Prix races.

Daniel Scioli has proposed upgrading the circuit to meet F1 standards. “It (a Grand Prix) is a global, big event,” Scioli said, according to La Agencia de Viajes. “It creates international tourists, bringing foreign currency and jobs.”

Fans might be wondering if Colapinto will race if Argentina gets its Grand Prix. Well, he has a contract with Williams until the end of this season. After that, he’ll continue as their test and reserve driver.
