Are Drivers Undervalued? F1 Cars Easier to Drive Than Ever

In today’s Formula 1, Jacques Villeneuve is known for speaking his mind.

He believes the current F1 cars are easier to drive and questions if this downplays Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen‘s recent performances.

Villeneuve shared his thoughts with Instantcasino while discussing Fernando Alonso‘s career. At 43, Alonso is still competing in F1, which Villeneuve attributes to modern advancements: “In the past, we were not as healthy as the drivers now and technologically or physically advanced. Also, racing is super safe now.”

“If you’re still a racer at the age of 43, you’re either a great racer or you didn’t take enough risks in your career. I don’t think Alonso has ever been hurt, I’ve never been hurt and my car was nowhere near as safe as they are today. The modern F1 cars are the easiest they’ve ever been to drive,” Villeneuve says.

‘Team bosses don’t want drivers with a bigger aura’

Villeneuve also understands if Aston Martin eventually replaces Alonso with a younger driver. He finds it odd but gets it: “Team principals and owners don’t want a driver with more aura overpowering them, they want to be the father of the team and situation, and to do that you need younger drivers than Alonso.”

Fans might think it’s unfair to push out experienced drivers just because of their age.
