Alpine Team Boss Resigns Shortly After Appointment: A Case of History Repeating Itself

Alpine team boss Bruno Famin will step down at the end of August.

The French team announced on Friday at Spa that Famin will take charge of Renault Group’s other motorsport activities at Viry-Chatillon. They also mentioned that a new team boss would be named soon.

The Alpine team has been experiencing some turbulence lately. Midway through the 2023 F1 season, Otmar Szafnauer was let go as team principal. Now, Bruno Famin, who had stepped in for Szafnauer, is set to leave too.

An official statement from the team read: “BWT Alpine F1 Team can confirm that Bruno Famin will move away from his current role as Team Principal of the F1 division by the end of August. Bruno will be in charge of all other Motorsport activities of the Renault Group at Viry-Chatillon. A new Team Principal will be announced in due course.”

Why Famin Will Leave His F1 Role at Alpine:

At a press conference in Spa-Francorchamps, Famin confirmed his departure himself. He explained, “For the last year, I’ve been doubling my activities with the VP Motorsport role, where I am managing Viry Chatillon with all the Endurance, Dakar, Formula E projects we are managing there. And on top of that, acting as the managing director of Alpine F1 team.” He added that focusing on these other projects would be more beneficial for the company.

Famin also addressed rumors about Flavio Briatore’s involvement in his decision to leave: “I have no problem with Flavio after the little time we spent together. I absolutely have no issue; everybody knows him; he has his own way and goal.” Fans might think this change is surprising given recent events within Alpine .

He concluded by saying it would be clearer if he steps down from his current role and fully dedicates himself to other responsibilities starting September 1st.
