Alpine might be eyeing Franco Colapinto sooner than expected, according to Flavio Briatore, advisor to Alpine CEO Luca de Meo.
It’s a surprising shift from just a few months ago, when Briatore said the Argentine driver wouldn’t get his shot until 2026.
The team has already locked in Pierre Gasly and rookie Jack Doohan for 2025. But now Briatore’s dropping hints that things could change.
“The only certain thing is death,” Briatore told Le Parisien. “We start the year with Pierre and Jack, I guarantee it. After that, we’ll see during the season.”
Alpine’s had a tough year, finishing sixth in the constructors’ championship. That’s not where they want to be.
And Briatore’s not afraid to shake things up.
“I have to help the team reach a situation where it can achieve results,” he explained. “The driver is the one who has to finish the work of the almost one thousand people behind him.”
He’s made it crystal clear: performance is everything.
“Everyone works for just two people,” Briatore said. “And if there is a driver who is not making progress, who is not bringing results, he will be changed.”
It’s a stark warning to Alpine’s current lineup – and maybe a glimmer of hope for Colapinto, who’s been turning heads in the junior categories.
