Adrian Newey is already changing Aston Martin, says Stroll
Lance Stroll believes design guru Adrian Newey is already making waves at Aston Martin by pushing everyone in the team to reach their full potential.
“I think it’s just extracting and getting more out of everyone,” Stroll told GPblog during the United States Grand Prix weekend.
The British team hasn’t been a regular podium threat since Fernando Alonso‘s impressive run of top-three finishes early in 2023. They’re hoping that’s about to change.
With Honda engines coming next year and Newey designing their new car, Aston Martin could be poised for a significant step forward ahead of the 2026 regulations overhaul.
Stroll explained how Newey is already transforming the team’s approach.
“I think [he’s] just changing the thought process about how the car is built and what needs to go into the car,” he said. “He can just be more aggressive in all areas to level up in terms of performance.”
What makes Newey special isn’t just his technical brilliance but his ability to elevate the entire organization.
“It’s just extracting and getting more out of everyone, out of the thousand people that we have now,” Stroll added.
The Canadian driver, who hasn’t scored points in the last four races, seemed genuinely excited about Newey’s impact on team culture.
“I think he goes into his trance and he’s envisioning the air going over the car right now and how it’s all going to work,” Stroll said with admiration.
“It’s very impressive to see not just how he goes about designing a car, but how he impacts the whole culture in the team and tries to just get more out of everyone who puts time and energy into building the car. So it’s exciting times.”
## Battle for sixth heats up
Meanwhile, Aston Martin remains locked in a tight battle with Racing Bulls for sixth place in the Constructors’ Championship.
Just three points separate the teams after Alonso’s 10th-place finish at COTA narrowed the gap slightly.
With only five races remaining, this fight could easily go down to the season finale in Abu Dhabi.
Neither team has shown a clear performance advantage, making this mid-field battle one of the more intriguing storylines as the season enters its final stretch.
